studio vrije ruimte
rotterdam, 2022–2023
an experiment in collective learning on architecture and urban space, at the rotterdamse academie van bouwkunst. the studio had no predetermined outcome, no individual product and no grades. what it asked for was presence, engagement and commitment.
it was grounded in solidarity and collaboration: personal development served a collectively held intention. it moved beyond individual authorship — sharing process, challenging each other, taking responsibility for what was built together. listening, observing, speaking, confronting, intervening, until individual transformation and collective formation merged.
field visits throughout, and students encouraged to take initiative. failure was welcome, as long as the effort for the collective was real.
on the invitation of thijs van spaandonk juha van 't zelfde co-led and tutored the studio, shaping its design, the rhythm of sessions and the space for communal learning. as ever, collective creativity was the core.
in collaboration with chidi onwuka, willemijn lofvers and thijs van spaandonk.
